Bluebird House is one of six Five Forensic Children's mental health units in the country and one of only 3 that accept both male and female patients.

You will receive an additional 1401 per annum on top on your annual salary.

Currently working outside of HIOW NHS then you will also qualify for a golden hello payment of 2500.

The opportunity to apply to enrol on the Children's and Young Persons Mental Health Inpatient Training Programme with the University of Reading.

You will have the opportunity to work with some of the most complex 12-18 year olds in the country who experience complex mental health difficulties and challenging behaviour. Many of the young people we help have experienced previous placements breakdown, prior to being admitted to Bluebird. We always ensure we spend a lot of time building a relationship with all of our young people by providing a safe, controlled environment.

Main duties of the job

Take charge of a ward regularly and accept duties delegated by the Ward Manager.

Support management of a clinical area including the deployment, supervision, teaching of staff/students and resources.

Assess individual care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care as well as setting standards of care across clinical areas

Take responsibility for the management, deployment and supervision of junior staff in clinical area throughout the span of duty.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide a nursing assessment when appropriate, of referred patients to determine the suitability for mental health nursing intervention.

To act as the prime provider of care, who is required to practise clinical skills for allocated patients by planning, assessing and design of nursing interventions patient programmes of care.

To monitor standard and provide ongoing evaluation of all care provided.

To frequently prepare for, participate in and attend ward rounds and other multi-professional meetings.

To ensure a high standard of nursing in the application of clinical nursing procedures and treatments including custody, storage and administration of medicines.

To advise staff of other psychiatric services in the nursing care of difficult to manage patients.

To ensure that patients' rights are maintained and protected under the Mental Health Act.

Maintain a personal contact with patients and their relatives through conversation ensuring that they understand the treatments and arrangements made for them.

Assist the Ward Manager in the formulation of standards of care, evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of same.

Ensure that care interventions are delivered by junior staff as in care plans.

Be responsible for the immediate management and clinical supervision of all junior staff throughout each span of duty.

Ensure that staff follow the clinical area and Trust policies and procedures

Ensure all staff follow legislative and statutory requirements, e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act, Food Hygiene etc.

Ensure that all staff observe the provisions of the Mental Health Act (particularly part III).

Ensure allocated staff are aware of and delivering care plans and objectives, together with any set activities to be undertaken.

To assist the Ward Manager in the appraisal of junior staff.

To act in accordance with current disciplinary, grievance and complaints procedures.

To participate in the recruitment of clinical staff up to Band 5.

To assist the Ward Manager in the provision of formal clinical supervision for all junior staff.

Planning of duty rotas ensuring Ward Manager of area signs off the rotas.

To ensure that ward furniture and equipment is maintained in good order and inform the Ward Manager of the need for repairs/replacements when necessary.

To assist the Ward Manager in control of the allocated nursing budget
