Job summary
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who has an interest in working with young people within a mental health setting or has experience in working in mental health, to join our established Occupational Therapy Team. The post holder will be involved in assessment, interventions and discharge planning of young people care. They will also be working alongside a Band 6 occupational therapist and an occupational therapy assistant.
Leigh House is an acute adolescent inpatient unit, providing residential care for up to 10 young people aged between 12 and 18. Set on the outskirts of Winchester, Leigh House is a purpose built hospital which provides a comprehensive assessment and treatment programme for young people experiencing acute mental health and/or emotional difficulties, eating disorders, and who additionally may pose a risk to themselves.
Leigh House is developing a brand new day service for young people with eating disorders , The post holder will work across both inpatient and day hospital .The day hospital will provide a day programme where young people can receive evidence-based interventions to prevent the need for admission to hospital. Multi-family therapy and systemic therapy will be core interventions for the day programme along with a range of occupational therapy, nursing, creative therapy and psychologically led groups. Education and meal support will be key components of the programme.
Main duties of the job
To manage a caseload of service users with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the occupational therapy services within a designated area / team.
To regularly supervise occupational therapy students on practice placement.
To develop skills and knowledge through participation in relevant training & learning opportunities.
