Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic Clinical / Counselling Psychologist with interest and experience in Physical Health. This exciting and varied role will enable you, as a key member of the Long Term Conditions (LTC) team, to further the growth of the iTalk Health pathway through promotion of integrated of services, as highlighted by the NHS Long Term Plan. This role will provide opportunities for developing and sustaining important working relationships with local physical health teams through MDT input and delivery of reflective practice. The post offers an opportunity for innovation and clinical working across different physical health settings and service development alongside the Senior Management Team.

Main duties of the job

*To support the embedding of specialist Long Term Conditions (LTC/s) Clinical Psychology provision within italk Health to support the integration between primary care psychological therapy and key health providers across primary, secondary, acute, inpatient/outpatient, and community-based services.

*To provide a quality, evidence-based psychology service to clients and their families within the italk Health pathway.

*To work into specific teams to develop and foster strong working relationships that champion the value that the psychological perspective brings to holistic, person-centred care.

*To provide a liaison role between physical health teams, such as community nursing teams, and the italk Health service that supports the psychological wellbeing of staff, promotes psychological awareness and thinking within physical health settings and facilitates timely, appropriate access to psychological therapy for clients.

*To facilitate reflective practice and MDT input across different teams both internally to Southern Health, as well as externally to other Trusts, Third Sector organisations, Social Care and Voluntary sector services etc.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to a specified service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.

2. To engage in collaborative formulation which informs psychological interventions, based upon a comprehensive, systemic understanding of the client's difficulties, including health needs, relational factors and the role of culture and the biopsychosocial context.

3.To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams. To engage in adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

4. To evaluate and make decisions about intervention options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

5. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility throughout the client's journey from assessment, treatment and discharge, according to client-need and agreed psychologically informed care plans.

6. To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

7. To facilitate reflective practice with multidisciplinary professionals, promoting staff well-being and self-efficacy in their clinical practice with client-groups that may present with complexity. To use this, along with MDT input with health teams to highlight the value that the psychological perspective brings to the wider health system.

8. To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.

9. To demonstrate cultural competence in clinical practice, which is reflected in direct work with clients, indirectly through the supervisory / consultancy relationship, as well as through interactions with the wider workforce and professional conduct within the italk service.

10. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.

11. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to work with other MDT members to help develop psychologically informed care.

12. Will be required to sit in a constrained position for client therapy and extended assessment sessions

13. Will be required to tolerate and manage frequent verbal abuse and occasional physical aggression

14. Will be required to deal with the intense emotional atmosphere surrounding therapy which may be distressing on a daily basis and to work with frequent intense concentration required for assessment and psychological therapy interventions.
