Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist to work with older people with complex mental health difficulties in the New Forest West OPMH CMHT three days a week based at Lymington New Forest Hospital, Ampress Business Park, Wellworthy Road, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 8QD. The service provides care to older people with mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, personality disorder and psychosis, as well as for people with dementia and their carers.

There are currently 6 other Clinical Psychologists working with older people in the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust who meet regularly for supervision and peer support. There are close working relationships with Adult Mental Health Services and the University of Southampton, which is the base for the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology Course. There are opportunities to be involved in teaching trainee clinical psychologists and for collaboration with other professional tutors, academic staff and research.

The post could be appointed either as a preceptorship towards an 8a role for the right applicant wishing to develop from a band 7 or be appointed at 8a. Responsibilities would be adjusted accordingly.

Main duties of the job

The responsibilities will include the provision of psychological assessment (including neuropsychology) and therapy to older people and their carers in community and clinic setting, to be a source of advice to the multi-professional team on psychological issues and to offer consultation and advice to other mental health and physical health professionals. Supervision of a Clinical Associate in Psychology and assistant psychologists may be part of this role. Also supervision of a clinical psychology trainee and contribution to service development will also be required for candidates at 8a level. Candidates who have an interest in neuropsychology will have an opportunity to develop these skills further.
