Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, and clinically confident Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Nurse to join our Community Perinatal Team. Experience of working in the Perinatal Mental Health field is desirable; a keen interest in this specialist area is essential. Registered Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists & Social Workers may apply.
The service comprises of three sub locality bases across Hampshire and IOW. This post will offer provision in the Basingstoke geographical area of the service, and there is flexible working between home and base. Car driver and use of car within work hours is essential.
We are commissioned to work with women/birthing people pre-conceptually, in pregnancy and postnatally where there are severe and complex mental health concerns. With the increase in several clinical roles across the service, we are able to extend our offer for women/birthing people from 12-24 months as well as offering fathers/co-parents screening and sign posting for their own mental health needs. We will also be increasing our psychological intervention offer to those using our service The service also provides consultation for advice, information, and signposting for women with a less severe mental illness in the perinatal period to primary care providers including GP's Health visitors and maternity services as well as the women themselves.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Perinatal Community mental health nurse/practitioner will be to undertake comprehensive assessments, manage a complex caseload of service users, provide practical advice and support including family work, psychological interventions and overseeing any safeguarding issues -- adult and child protection. They will also monitor medication management and concordance and monitor their effects. Coordinating and care planning the multidisciplinary interventions available to a women will be crucial and ensuring a patient led care plan is in place.
The successful post holder will be familiar with Perinatal community standards, governance, and performance structures and confident in partnership work with other agencies such as Children and Family Social Services, Midwifery and Obstetric teams, CMHTs, Health Visitors and the Voluntary sector. You will have excellent clinical skills and a good level of post registration experience, proven ability to complete comprehensive mental state examinations, thoroughly assess risk, and document and communicate these clearly and concisely.
