Job summary

This is a largely digital service so Work from Home is available for a proportion of this role.

We are looking to recruit individuals that have lived experience of gambling problems to be part of our Specialist Gambling Service team to help improve the lives of our service users.

This is a new specialist service that provides evidence-based treatment to people with harmful gambling with a strong focus on using digital approaches to deliver high quality care. It is funded by NHS England and offers high quality assessment and three main treatment pathways: individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and medication for problem gambling.

This service currently operates across Hampshire and Isle of Wight with the ambition to cover several regions within the South East over the next few years. We are looking for enthusiastic, forward thinking and self-motivated people with lived experience to form an integral part of the team supporting service users.

Please note: Candidates who have significant conflicts of interest in relation to the gambling or gaming industries are not eligible to be interviewed or appointed to this post. Examples may include: working for organisations funded by these industries (directly or indirectly), holding one or more positions in organisations with close links to these industries, or having commercial vested interests in relation to these industries.

There are two part time positions available (22.5hrs pw)

Main duties of the job

Peer Support Workers are individuals with experience of using mental health services who are employed, trained and supported to use their first hand knowledge to support others. At the heart of the role is the ability to form safe and trusting relationships that is informed by the shared lived experience. The focus of the peer worker role is to enable individuals to discover and make use of his or her strengths and to create and sustain connections with their peers and wider communities.

In creating a Peer Support Worker role, the Southern Gambling Service recognises that the value and contribution of being able to speak to an individual who has been through a recovery journey. The post-holder will work alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide care and support from a place of lived knowledge, experience and optimism.
