Job summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced and accredited cognitive behavioural therapist. You will join the Southampton Psychology Service, which is a supportive and friendly team with a wealth of clinical expertise including CBT, DBT, CAT, ACT, EMDR and psychodynamic therapy. We have good supervision structures and an excellent track record of CPD, as well as strong academic links.
In this role, you will offer assessments and cognitive behavioural therapy to patients referred by the three Community Mental Health Teams in the city. You will also offer supervision, consultation, and training to staff working in the teams.
We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and clinical skills. We are looking to develop our capacity in trauma-focused CBT, and you will be encouraged to develop specialist skills in this area, including through further training. You will also be supported to develop your skills in supervision and to supervise at least one trainee CBT therapist.
You will be based at College Keep, Southampton and will be managed by a Clinical Psychologist or Senior Psychological Therapist. Specialist supervision will be available. Flexible working arrangements are possible, including some remote working according to clinical need.
Part-time working and job share arrangements will be considered for the right applicant.
Main duties of the job
*To provide high quality specialist assessment, formulation, individual and group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to patients of the Southampton City Mental Health Teams, working within professional guidelines and the organisational structure of the Service's policies and procedures.
*The characteristics of the core population include people diagnosed with enduring mental health needs and complex emotional needs who may find it difficult to:
make or maintain relationships
connect with other people, including friends, family or work colleagues
manage and control their emotions
cope with life and difficult feelings
control their behaviours and impulses
*The post holder will place an emphasis on co-production and demonstrate an attitude which respects and values individuals and their carers and the core values of the Trust: patients and people first; partnership; and respect.
*Duties will also involve working with other people involved in the individuals' care (e.g. family or named carers). A recovery focused approach is essential
*To offer advice and supervision on individuals' psychological care to other members of the multi-professional team. Emphasis here is on having an understanding/appreciation of the complex nature of the mental health care system and to develop insight and understanding to all others involved in people's care.

To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of an individual's mental health problems, and risk to self and others, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the individual's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
To be responsible for implementing CBT psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
To communicate to people in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, including formulations of the individual's difficulties and the basis for treatment recommendations.
To communicate with referrers and other clinical staff, a specialist psychological formulation of the individuals' difficulties, in addition to making recommendations for their future care and treatment.

- Qualification as an RMN, social worker or occupational therapist with post-qualification training in psychological therapy equivalent to a diploma or above. - Advanced post-registration training, continuing professional development and supervised practice in cognitive behavioural therapy.
- AND
