Job summary

Would you like to train as a High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist?

The successful candidates will undertake a 12 month training course at the University of Southampton. During this time, you will be trained to provide High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural therapy within a stepped care model for adults with common mental health problems, including depression and a range of anxiety disorders. You will be required to attend training at the University two days a week and working with a caseload of patients within service three days a week. We are looking for people with energy, enthusiasm, and a high level of skills and experience. All staff will work as part of a team, receive regular clinical supervision and be able to access CPD.

Main duties of the job

oROUTE 1: You will have a core mental health profession as defined by the BABCP, for example: Arts Therapists -- HCPC Registered, Counselling -- Accredited with the BACP, IACP, COSCA, or FDAP, Medicine -- Psychiatrist or General Practitioner, MBChB or MBBS, and usually PG training with membership of MRCGP, MRCP or MRCPsych, Occupational Therapy -- BSc Occupational Therapy, MSc Occupational Therapy, or Dip C.O.T and HCPC Registered, Psychotherapy/ Psychotherapeutic Counselling - UKCP Registration, Registered Nurse -- Mental Health, or Learning Disability, Social Work -- CQSW, DipSW, MA Social Work, or BA/BSc Hons Social Work. Registered with one of four UK regulators - Social Work England, Social Care Wales, Northern Ireland Social Care Council and Scottish Social Services Council , Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology - accredited by the British Psychological Society and HCPC Registered as Practitioner Psychologist, Educational Psychology - Doctorate or QEPS - must have BPS Chartership and HCPC Registration as Practitioner Psychologist, Health Psychology.

oROUTE 2: If you are a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with at least two years of post-qualification experience, and at least four years relevant mental health experience. In addition you will need to be able to demonstrate a completed KSA*, meeting the standards of the BABCP.

Job responsibilities

1.CLINICAL

1.1.Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service

1.2.Assess patients for suitability for CBT. Where the problems appear to be too complex or severe to be appropriate for a trainee therapists to refer to manager/supervisor for advice on how to manage the case, and make onward referral or signposting as directed and appropriate.

1.3.Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department's referral protocols, and refer unsuitable patients onto the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary

1.4.Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for patients

1.5.Facilitate therapy groups

1.6.Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language

1.7.Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of patient contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient

1.8.Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or patients in treatment, where appropriate.

1.9.Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service

1.10.Keep coherent, timely, records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols

1.11.Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach

1.12.Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process

1.13.To maintain clinical record in line with service guidance

1.14.To complete IAPT clinical measures, patient outcome and patient satisfaction measures in line with service policy

1.15.Deal with frequent highly distressing or emotional circumstances and psychological content including complex trauma and/or abuse, challenging behaviours and longstanding mental health difficulties.

  • A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy.
