It is primarily based within April house in Southampton and currently runs from 08.30-16.30 Monday, Thursday and Friday, and until 19.30 Tuesday and Wednesdays.

During this time, you will provide support to individuals on the programme through both one-to-one and group work, supporting with meal preparation, physical health monitoring, joining them to eat breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner and to access activities in the community as part of their recovery journey.

You will work alongside a supportive team including a dietitian, nutritionist, mental health nurse, occupational therapist and other health care support workers. You will also be part of, and able to access support from, the wider eating disorders service which includes psychologists and therapists.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, flexibility, openness to learn, good recording skills, the ability to build professional relationships with individuals on the programme, a driving licence and access to a vehicle. Due to the hours of the service you will need to be able to work one evening per week.

Main duties of the job

The Day Support Programme is a day treatment programme aimed at supporting individual patients to take responsibility for their recovery from their eating disorder. The programme incorporates a range of therapeutic groups and mealtimes addressing social, psychological and physical factors impacting on someones mental health. Utilising a recovery orientated approach, DSP encourages individuals to lead their own recovery, identifying what areas they might need to focus on and how to overcome challenges. This approach supports people to develop problem solving skills and feel more able to manage their mental health independently.

As a member of the multi-disciplinary eating disorders team, you will be involved in the day-to-day running of DSP. Your duties will include shopping, planning and preparing for mealtimes, supervising and supporting patients during meals, physical health monitoring, co-facilitating therapeutic groups, providing one-to-one support as needed both within April House and in the community. You will also need to clearly record your contact with individuals on open rio, our electronic recording system.
