Job summary

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our newly refurbished, male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit in Basingstoke, Mid & North Hampshire Division. The post holder will be based at Parklands Hospital, Basingstoke and will become part of a team of consultants working in the Acute Care Team.

The PICU Hazel ward forms part of the Acute Care Pathway, together with the Acute Mental Health Team, and two 18 bedded single sex adult acute admission units, all based at Parklands Hospital. The 10 beds in Basingstoke together with 10 beds in Southampton provide the psychiatric intensive care needed by those who are most unwell within mental health services across the Trust. The post-holder will join 7 other consultant colleagues within the Acute Care Pathway, working together with the Acute Care Pathway Matron as part of the clinical leadership team.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be based at Parklands Hospital, Basingstoke and will be responsible for providing clinical care, RC responsibility and treatment for up to 10 male patients in a brand new single sex 10 bedded intensive care ward as well as providing clinical leadership to the team.

Hazel ward forms part of the Acute Care Pathway, together with an 18 bedded Male ward Juniper ward, a 6 bedded MoD Unit, a 18 bedded female Cherry Ward and a Crisis and Home Treatment Team, all based at Parklands Hospital. The postholder will join 6 other consultant colleagues in AMH, 4 middle grade doctors and approximately 6 junior doctors in the medical team supporting the Acute Care Pathway. The Leadership team across the pathway consists of 2 Ward Managers at Band 7, 2 Band 8A Modern Matrons across the wards, 2 band 7 leaders in the CRHT and a Crisis pathway Manager Band 8A across CRHT.

The successful candidate will be part of a combined North West Hampshire Senior on call Rota, approximately 1 in 9 frequency with option of first or second senior on call, at 3 per cent and 1 per cent banding respectively.
