Job summary
The Clinical Specialist Nurse contributes to the provision of continence specialist nursing. The role requires competence in specific areas of knowledge and nursing expertise in the field of continence and the ability to provide advice, education and support to both staff and patients, within the Department of Health, NMC, NICE and RCN guidelines. To lead a team of allocated staff with the support of Continence Clinical Lead.
Main duties of the job
work under the indirect supervision of the clinical lead for complex cases and to receive support while working on strategic development of the team/service.
Work autonomously with patient and carers receiving referrals according to clinical need and priority using evidence based practice to meet their needs
To act as a resource of expertise and advice to junior staff, other health professionals and patients.
To assess and implement the holistic needs of continence patients and factors that impact on the patients overall condition, raising concerns as appropriate.
Act as a point of contact for patients, carers and other staff members for specialist advice and support
Work collaboratively with the multi disciplinary team and other health professionals, organisations and agencies, to improve care for patients.
Maintain adequate records within NMC requirements and work with a high level of autonomy and accountability.
Instigate and identify the need for protection of vulnerable adults, including referral to socials services, report writing and presentation to relevant bodies.
Use risk assessment tools safely to manage high risk areas and ensure compliance with Health and Safety guidance.
participate in staff meetings, case conferences and data collection, audit as required.
Ensure that staff levels are safe, as per the continence service Standard Operational Procedure (SOP)
