Eastleigh, Romsey and New Forest East CMHTs and Inpatient Service Older Peoples Mental Health
Are you passionate about Older People and their mental health?
We are looking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist to work with older people with complex mental health difficulties in the Eastleigh, Romsey and New Forest East OPMH CMHTs three days a week and on an OPMH functional in-patient service at the Melbury Lodge, Winchester, two days a week.
The successful candidate will be based at Newtown House, Eastleigh with the community mental health team. The service provides care to older people with mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, personality disorder and psychosis, as well as for people with dementia and their carers. The two days in the in-patient unit will include assessment and therapy and also assisting in an exciting training initiative to upskill the inpatient staff team.
Applicants will automatically be considered for other similar vacancies in OPMH across the Trust.
Please note candidates need to be qualified clinical psychologists (or about to qualify) and registered with the Health Care Professions Council or clearly state on their application how they are planning to achieve this registration.
Interviews will be conducted remotely
Main duties of the job
The responsibilities will include the provision of psychological assessment (including neuropsychology) and therapy to older people and their carers in community, clinic and an inpatient setting, to be a source of advice to the multi-disciplinary team on psychological issues and to offer consultation and advice to other mental health and physical health professionals. Supervision of a clinical psychology trainee and contribution to service development will also be required for candidates at 8a level. Candidates who have an interest in neuropsychology will have an opportunity to develop these skills further.
There are currently 6 other Clinical Psychologists working with older people in the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust who meet regularly for supervision and peer support. Three of the clinical psychologists have similar roles across the community and inpatient services and will be additional support to develop this role. There are close working relationships with Adult Mental Health Services and the University of Southampton, which is the base for the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology Course. There are opportunities to be involved in teaching trainee clinical psychologists and for collaboration with other professional tutors, academic staff and research.
The post could be appointed either as a preceptorship towards an 8a role for the right applicant wishing to develop from a band 7 or be appointed at 8a. Responsibilities would be adjusted accordingly.
