Job summary
Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Radiologist at Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust. The Trust has two sites; Southport District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital, and there will be a requirement to work across both sites. Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals are busy District General Hospitals providing a wide range of services.
The Trust will soon be going live with their Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) this is an exciting time for both staff and patients. The CDC will open up fantastic opportunities for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals.
The Radiology Service has departments on both sites. The Trust operates a fully integrated RIS/PACS with integrated voice recognition. In addition to providing the Hospital Trust with a comprehensive Radiology Service the department provides services to 170 General Practitioners, serving a population of 258,000 through 60 Practices and Health Centre's.
The Trust would support CESR applications for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
The Radiology Directorate provides the following Services on the Southport and Formby District General Hospital site: Plain Radiography, General Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound, Doppler Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Vascular Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Computerised Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Bone Mineral Densitometry.
The Directorate provides the following Services on the Ormskirk District General Hospital site: Plain Radiography, General Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound, Doppler Ultrasound, Computerised Tomography and Dental Radiography including Paediatric services.

Services provided on the Southport and Formby District General Hospital site include major Surgery, acute Orthopaedics, acute Elderly care, CCU/ ITU, Urology, 24 hour Adult Accident and Emergency services and acute admissions for Medicine and Surgery.
Southport and Formby District General Hospital is also the home to the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre and provide specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man. The centre, which is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the treatment of people who require permanent mechanical ventilation following spinal cord injury, admits patients from across the United Kingdom for this highly specialised care.

A new build Diagnostic and Treatment Centre and a Paediatric Accident and Emergency Department are present at Ormskirk, where there is also the West Lancashire Health Centre which is a Minor Injuries Unit covered by Virgin Care and minor injuries unit.
Applicants should demonstrate a high level of radiology clinical experience and competence and development of sub-specialty areas of interest in addition to core skills is encouraged.
We are looking for the successful candidates to join our existing team of Radiologists. The out of hours emergency radiology service is currently provided by a third party provider and as a result this post currently has no on call commitment.
The University of Liverpool has awarded us the status of University Clinical Education Centre in recognition of the high standard of training provided for students on placement to the Trust.
