Clinical Fellow - Critical Care
Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to take up this newly developed Covid Recovery (simulation) Clinical Fellow post.
The post will rotate on a 3-monthly basis between clinical duties within the critical care unit and full-time educational activity.
The clinical duties within critical care will involving working on a full shift pattern, supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota.
The educational role will involve supporting the development of the trust simulation strategy, as well as supporting the delivery of the trust educational programmes.
The Critical Care Unit is based on the Southport and Formby District General Hospital site, providing Level 2 and 3 care for a general ICU population, as well as a Postoperative Critical Care Unit (POCCU).
The unit is currently constituted as 18 critical care bed-spaces (funded to 11) which can be used flexibly.
The department is actively engaged with the management of deterioration within the hospital and has critical care outreach over 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Main duties of the job
The Department of Medical Education is located primarily at Southport and Formby District General Hospital, but does support medical learners at Ormskirk District General Hospital.
The successful candidate would be expected to support the delivery of the educational programmes for both postgraduate and undergraduate medical learners.
The department has invested in equipment to support technology enhanced learning (TEL) and the successful candidates would be expected to support the department in incorporating TEL into the trust clinical education programmes.
They would also be members of the trust Patient Safety Group, so support the implementation of the national patient safety syllabus.

The appointee, within the educational role, will support the organisation and delivery of medical education in trust, primarily supporting postgraduate medical learners.
The appointee, within the clinical role, will participate in the non-anaesthetic resident rota, providing support to assess and managed critically ill patients who require high dependency (level 2) and/ or intensive (level 3) care.
Although the duties will be principally based on the Southport site, the appointee will be expected to work across both sites and may occasionally, when required, be expected to travel between sites.

Southport District General Hospital has 5 major theatres, an Accident and Emergency Department, an Intensive Care / Coronary Care/ High Dependency Unit and the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Unit.
Ormskirk District General Hospital has 7 Major Theatres, a Paediatric Accident & Emergeny Department, Delivery Suite, Maternity Theatre and a Diagnostic Treatment Centre.
Other Services provided: Acute Pain Service, Pain Medicine Clinics, Spinal Injuries, Community Dental Anaesthesia, Epidural Service for Maternity, Pre-admission Assessment Clinic.

- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research activity within both departments
- Support both departments in making the most efficient use of the resources available, thus be prepared to work flexibly and deputise, if appropriate, for absent colleagues and undertake additional duties in occasional emergencies or unforeseen circumstances
- Be available, exceptionally, for irregular commitments outside the normally rostered duties, which are essential for the safety and continuity of patient care.
- Be familiar with and comply with the principles expected by the GMC, as outlined in Good Medical Practice. Thus, agree to maintain their professional responsibilities, including full and active participation in the trust appraisal process.
