Job summary
The Paediatric Department is looking for enthusiastic, proactive and motivated staff nurses to join our busy Children's Ward and A&E at Ormskirk and District General Hospital.Experience is preferred but not essential.
Our Practice Development Nurse, Senior Sisters and Paediatric Matron will support and encourage you to develop both clinically and managerially and offer a comprehensive induction programme, preceptorship, teaching sessions and in-house training.
Main duties of the job
The Paediatric Team have been innovative and forward thinking, developing our own very skilled and competent ENP's and APNP's to ensure a stable and supportive workforce, and we are continuing to develop and value our staff in this way.Ability to work flexible shifts on internal rotation to cover nights and weekends is essential. Flexible working is supported. The opportunity to rotate to other areas within Paediatrics is available and encouraged.
To support and participate in the functions required to fulfil the goals and services provided by the ward/department.
To ensure awareness of policies and procedures in relation to the safeguarding of children.

Our Paediatric Emergency Department, provides care for children under 16 years and sees up 30,000 children per year.
Our Paediatric Services are rated Good by CQC.
The Children's Unit has a 17 bedded inpatient ward with one High Dependency bed and 4 day case beds, all supported by our busy Paediatric Assessment Unit.
We also have Outpatient clinics and a Children's Community Outreach Team .On site is also a 10 cot Level 2 Neonatal Unit.
The Government have announced their intention to introduce the need for mandatory COVID vaccinations for frontline patient facing roles (and those staff working in patient areas). To assist in the maintenance of standards for professional practices in order to enhance the quality of care for children and their families within the philosophy of family centred care.
To participate in the effective management of the unit resources.
To assist in the setting and monitoring of standards of nursing care within the ward/department.
To encourage and support the philosophy of family centred care by the participation of the patients carer(s)/ families in the assessment of care needs.
To encourage the involvement of the child and their family in the management and evaluation of care.
To advocate child and family involvement so that care can be reflected as individualised.

To maintain safe custody of drugs, ensuring that checking, witnessing and administration procedures are compatible with statutory and trust requirements.
