Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Learning Disability and Autism Practitioner at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust. The role will be to work with the current post holder to provide the service Monday to Friday.
The Learning Disability and Autism Practitioner will support the Named Nurses and the Assistant Director Safeguarding to ensure that the organisation delivers excellent care to those with a learning disability, and or autism.
The post holder will ensure the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities, and is compliant with the NHS Learning Disability Improvement Standards.
The role will include supporting the Named Nurses to deliver our duties for the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards for those patients with a learning disability and or autism.
Main duties of the job
The post will be mostly at Southport Hospital, although the successful applicant will be expected to work across both Southport and Ormskirk sites as required, and may be required to attend external meetings.
The post holder will provide an advanced level of learning disability and autism expertise, knowledge and advice during the care of highly complex conditions and / or situations.
They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team, patients and their families and or carers to ensure the delivery of excellent care.
The role will provide partnership working developing effective relationships with multi-agency partners, the patient, families and or carers, to support the admission and discharge processes, and to provide the delivery of high standards of care to those with a learning disability and or autism.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of detailed improvement plans relating to the NHS Learning Disability Benchmark, and ensure the Trust is compliant with the NHS Learning Disability Improvement Standards, by 2023.
In addition the post holder will use their expertise to be a source of training and supervision, developing and providing learning disability and autism training. They will be required to demonstrate the Trust's compliance to any future mandated learning disability and autism training.
