Job summary
This is a replacement post. The post is located at Roseberry Park Hospital, Middlesbrough, where inpatient forensic beds and clinical and managerial offices are all co-located. The post-holder will have a caseload of up to 17 patients on Lark, Low secure male slow stream rehabilitation ward.
There is a system of weekly MDT meetings for the ward which the post holder is expected to attend, in addition to meetings for CPA (6 monthly), formulation and risk management meetings.
The consultant will be supported by a ward manager, clinical lead working on the ward. In addition, they will receive support from occupational therapist, psychologist and social worker. Pharmacist will attend when support is required. A SAS/trust doctor, which is shared (50% time) will be supporting the post holder. The post holder can be the identified supervisor for the junior doctor. There will be opportunity to become a trainer for trainees in the future.
Referral rates for the ward are anticipated to be 4 per year from both internal and external sources.
Within the Secure Inpatient Services Directorate, the post-holder will be working alongside 14 consultant colleagues, 4 specialty grade doctors, and up to 3 core trainees.
The post-holder will also be expected to provide 1 PA per week prison sessions to support the Offender Health Service. This will be at a local prison within the Northeast.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will be the Responsible Clinician for 17 patients on Lark ward.
The Consultant, in conjunction with the respective ward manager, will be expected to provide committed, proactive and responsive clinical leadership working with the in-patient MDT team. The Consultant will attend brief daily multidisciplinary meetings and/or ward rounds as appropriate, when decisions are made about patient care and the management plans, risk and leave arrangements are reviewed.
The Consultant will attend and contribute fully to formulation and risk meetings. The Consultant will attend the discharge planning meetings and be involved in the development of the integrated pathway of care for each individual patient based on a Recovery Approach.
The Consultant will be responsible, in conjunction with the MDT, for developing close links with community teams and adult mental health inpatient services. This will form part of the Job Plans SPAs.
There is medical cover into the whole unit by a core trainee or a Speciality Grade Doctors. Physical healthcare issues will be managed through nursing referral to the services dedicated primary care service based on site. The consultant will have the support of a shared Junior Doctor to cover the ward. The consultant will be supported if they wish to be a trainer of a core trainee/ senior registrar.
