Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for 2 specialty doctors to work in secure inpatient services.Forensic Mental Health Services relocated to Ridgeway, with its purpose built medium and low secure facilities in May 2010. This facility offers increased capacity, with over 120 medium and low secure male and female in-patient beds. In addition Ridgeway contains the majority of the Forensic Learning Disability low secure beds (67) and the Medium Secure autism beds (12).
Ridgeway offers spacious accommodation along with a comprehensive range of facilities including its own gymnasium, football pitch, café, GP surgery, dental surgery and resource centre.
The principal objectives of the service are to cater for mentally disordered patients who require a greater degree of security than can be provided in conventional psychiatric settings in the region, but who do not need the degree of security provided by the High Secure Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will cover 1.5 wards -Lark is a 16 bed male low secure slow stream rehabilitation ward.Mandarin is an 16 bed male medium secure slow stream rehabilitation ward for patient enduring and symptomatic mental illness.
The specialty doctor will be expected to be part of committed, proactive and responsive clinical leadership working with the in-patient MDT team. The specialty doctor will attend brief daily multidisciplinary meetings and/or ward rounds as appropriate, when decisions are made about patient care and the management plans, risk and leave arrangements are reviewed. Supervision will be provided by consultant supervisors on a minimum of a monthly basis.
The speciality doctor will attend and contribute fully to formulation and risk management meetings. The specialty doctor will attend the discharge planning meetings and be involved in the development of the integrated pathway of care for each individual patient based on a Recovery Approach.
Workload includes but not limited to
Weekly MDT meetings on each ward
Preparation of medical report for CPA meeting
Day to day ward work e.g. Kardex reviews, ordering medications reviewing blood results
Mental state examinations and reviewing patients in between MDTs
Liaising with pharmacy/gp/medical colleagues in acute trust
Annual physical health checks
Completion of admission/transfer clerkings and discharge summaries
