Job summary
The liaison
psychiatry service provides assessments and a signposting service for patients
aged 18 and over, who present with mental health problems at any of the acute
general hospitals in Teesside. The service is provided 24 hours a day. This
means that patients admitted to accident and emergency (A&E) who have
mental ill health will be seen more quickly by mental health specialists, and a
treatment and care plan can be created for them immediately. It also helps to
reduce any unnecessary acute hospital admissions for patients. South Tees Liaison Service primarily
provides input into James Cook University Hospital, and the North Tees Liaison
Service primarily provides input into the University Hospital of North Tees,
based in Stockton.
The liaison service is a single
seamless provision across Adult Mental Health and MHSOP with a number of sub
specialties. Liaison Psychiatry works
collaboratively with LD services to ensure that Greenlight principles are
followed.
When
required the service will facilitate effective transfer to specialist mental
health services, either in secondary care, crisis services or IAPT. The service
will also enable timely discharge and avoid unnecessary admissions by working
closely with mental health and mainstream community services.
