Job summary
This post will provide input into the York part of the North Yorkshire and
York service. as well as working with the Early Intervention for Psychosis
under 18 patients from Selby.
It has a Single Point of
Access service staffed by an experienced staff team who triage and provide a
telephone consultation service to families and referrers. The SPA responds to
all referrals and help young people and their families with the process of
navigating through the options to find a service that meets their needs. The
service works with a model of brief intervention to empower young people and
their families in achieving good mental health and well-being. Staff job plans
are designed to deliver services described in the TEWV Clinical Pathways, in
order to provide high quality evidence-based care.
The York East and West Teams are based at Orca House in York serving the city of York and surrounding villages. York's population is around 240,000, of which about 21% are under 18. It is a mainly affluent area and is ranked 267 out of 317 lower tier local authority
districts on average IMD making York the 51st least deprived
district in England, though there are pockets of
deprivation with 7 wards sitting within the bottom 20% of the IMD. The total
West and East caseload is 1309. There is some overlap between the 2 clinical
teams, in particular the neurodevelopmental provision including undertaking
joint ADHD and ASC assessment and treatment clinics.
Main duties of the job
Provision of
psychiatric services to children and young people living in the York area (split between the 4 consultants based on post
code).
Provide psychiatric input to the under 18 year
olds being care coordinated by the Early Intervention for Psychosis Team from
Selby as well as those from their catchment in York.
Clinics at Orca
House with very occasional home visits where clinically indicated
Liaison with paediatricians at local hospitals.
Provision of advice, consultation, supervision and leadership to the multidisciplinary team.
Deal with complex cases in partnership with other agencies.
Working with the Early
Intervention for Psychosis Team cases from Selby
Provision of teaching to postgraduate doctors in the locality.
Participate in the North Yorkshire & York CAMHS consultant on-call rota andthe section 12 daytime York and Selby rota.

Court the Harrogate Team based at Dragon Parade, the Scarborough Team based at
Lake House and the Northallerton Team based at North Moor House with a
peripheral clinic in Colburn.
The York teams have a Single Point of Access service staffed by
an experienced staff team who triage and provide a telephone consultation
service to families and referrers. The SPA responds to all referrals and help
young people and their families with the process of navigating through the
options to find a service that meets their needs. The service works with a model
of brief intervention to empower young people and their families in achieving

The Team is based at Orca House, York and serves the city of York and surrounding villages.
The post holder will, with their consultant colleague, see all
presentations, requiring the input of a psychiatrist arising from the secondary
schools and their feeder primary schools within the York sector. The consultant
would expect to hold a caseload of around 75 based on current consultant caseload
and would be asked to see approximately 2 new assessment per week. The service
supports a model whereby all cases are co worked with other members of the MDT, care coordinator
and lead professional role usually held by a non-psychiatrist, except where there
is a formal mutual agreement that sole consultant input is required with other
members of the multidisciplinary team.
The Consultant joining the team will be expected to work in accordance
with GMC guidance for working in multiagency and multidisciplinary teams. The
Consultant will be expected to work flexibly.
The post will follow a 5 PA (Direct Clinical Care):
3 PA (Supporting Professional Activities) job plan. This will allow the post
holder to develop a protected day each week to pursue additional interests such as research, medical
education or leadership opportunities.
