This post is for two Consultant Psychiatrists to join a Community Team in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry based in County Durham

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivery of mental health services up to a young person’s 18th birthday for the population of County Durham and Darlington. The post would suit someone interested in generic out-patient/community CAMHS. The post also requires expertise in service development, or the enthusiasm and ability to develop skills in Quality Improvement.

It serves the Durham City, Consett and Chester-le-Street populations (180,000 all ages population). Approximately 6 PAs will be devoted to clinical care, including associated administrative activities, and up to 2 PAs to supporting professional activities. The post holder will contribute to the team’s performance objectives and, in terms of clinical work, is expected to achieve a minimum of 480 direct clinical contacts per year (on average 12 direct patient contacts per week), representing a mix of new and review appointments. The postholder is expected to hold a small generic caseload but also contribute to the care of other patients. The post holder will be responsible for delivery of mental health services up to a young person’s 18th birthday for the population of North Durham. The post holder will be expected to have a familiarity with important, relevant legislation affecting the care of young people. The post-holder will work closely with consultant and multi-disciplinary colleagues. Duties will include: • assessment and treatment of children and young people • teaching, training, consultation and supervision of colleagues within the service • liaison and consultation to other agencies • clinical audit • administrative and managerial duties • planning and development of the service • clinical leadership to the team and service • implementation of the Specialist CAMHS Strategy • contribution to team and service improvements through the application of knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology • support for CAMHS transformation The development and pursuit of special interests such as services for children with substance misuse, EIP, mood disorders, or neuro-developmental disorders (including learning disabilities) will be encouraged. Formal programmed activities may be negotiated for such activities. The service aims to continue its academic tradition and opportunities will be made available for research and teaching activities and for continuing professional development. A formal academic session would be negotiable for a suitable candidate. There is a need for a flexible pattern of working, which may change from time to time, depending on the demands on the various areas of the service. There will be a requirement to perform domiciliary and community visits as required. Frequency of on-call rota will be between 1 in 8 to 1 in 10 but can vary depending on vacancies or periods of leave. On-call supplement payable is 5%.
