Consultant Psychiatrist in Assertive Outreach Team
This job is now closed
Job summary
The team is multi-disciplinary, working with people aged 18-65years within the York and Selby location.
The team is well established in the locality and was set up in 1999 as an assertive outreach team following the Policy Implementation Guidelines developed at the time. It has evolved and responded to local and national changes. Whilst it still works with clients who have longer term problems who find it difficult to engage with other services it now also works with a broader range of clients.
In 2018 the team developed an out of area cell with the aim of actively working with patients who were in hospital placements out of the locality. The aim was to actively work with the person and staff to ensure that the best care contract was established, and that people could be repatriated back to the locality soon as possible.
The core clinical work will involve outpatient clinics, home visit, formulation, review, leadership meetings and Mental Health Act-related work. This is particularly related to the management of people subject to Community Treatment Orders. The direct clinical workload centres on 3 sessions of planned patient contact but with availability across the week for urgent work. The nature of the work means that there is a high degree of flexibility necessary, including a need to work with people to support timely discharge out of area.
Main duties of the job
Take part in assessments, follow-up and joint working of patients to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.
Provide input to multidisciplinary discussions of assessments and management plans
Work jointly with colleagues from other disciplines and all relevant agencies to provide a comprehensive approach to patient care and treatment.
The appointee must be approved under Section 12(2) MHA 1983.
To contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision of junior doctors.
The appointee must be able to travel independently.
