Springwood
Complex Needs Unit at Springwood (This Post) is a dementia care complex needs unit with 14 beds.
Springwood provides care for people usually over the age of 65 who need
specialist dementia care and mental health nursing care. This is a
stepdown unit, and the unit does not take direct acute admissions.
Rowan Lea
Ward (not this post) at the Cross Lane Hospital is a 20-bed inpatient
assessment and treatment ward for older people with mental health problems. It
caters for patients with both functional and organic illnesses. Average bed
occupancy over 12 months 92%, Total admissions in 12 months 110, Total
discharges in 10 months 68, Average length of stay (spell) 87 days, Total
Ward stays (this is different as includes transfers from other wards and to
other wards): 184, Average length of days (spell) 38 days and number of new
detentions and renewals is at an average of 11 per months over the last 1 year.
Community Mental health and Memory Services - MHSOP
community mental health and memory services in Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale
area are provided by two Community Mental Health Teams i.e., Scarborough CMHT
which is based in Cross Lane Hospital and Ryedale CMHT which is based in
Princess Road Clinic in Malton.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time post, though less than full time
applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. The Consultant will provide input
working to a 6 Direct clinical care and 2 supporting professional activities
work programme to the Springwood unit. In addition, the post holder will have
1.5 Direct clinical care and 0.5 supporting professional activities sessions
with Scarborough Memory services. This post is a refresh and combination of
existing posts.
The rationale behind this post is to embody the
trust ethos of wellbeing and create sustainable, sought-after consultant roles
within each locality of the trust. It will provide support to the ward during
the current Consultants secondment.
The Consultant will be expected to provide Clinical
input and leadership to Springwood 14 bedded dementia care stepdown inpatient
ward at the Springwood unit. The Consultant will be part of the shared
leadership on the ward and provide clinical and educational supervision to
junior doctors posted with the team. Consultant will also provide clinical
leadership to Scarborough memory service as above working with a speciality
doctor who is already in the post for the Scarborough Memory services.
The ward and this consultant post are supported by a
foundation year doctor (FY1 or 2) or a Trust Grade doctor. There are no higher
Trainee posts attached to this post. In addition, an international fellowship
doctor post has been temporarily added to support this vacant consultant post.
