Job summary

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Dietitian to join the Teesside CAMHS Community Eating Disorders Service. The clinical aspect of this role will be to provide specialist, evidence-based dietetic intervention to young people with eating disorders and their families within the community setting. The aim of our team is to provide non-judgemental and timely interventions to our service users, supporting them to recover from eating disorders, so that they can restore their health and live their best possible lives. The post holder will also be required to provide dietetic support to the broader CAMHS teams, which will involve working with a number of complex presentations in addition to eating disorders, such as faltering growth, selective eating and weight management.

The successful candidate will be a skilled, enthusiastic, and dynamic Registered Dietitian with substantial clinical experience of complex dietetic delivery. As a Clinical Specialist, they will be required to work with the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT), external partners and stakeholders; participate in service development; audit; research; pathway development; and training of clinical teams they work into, external stakeholders and students.

Main duties of the job

Accountable for own caseload including highly complex cases in a specialist field of practice, may co-work highly complex cases with less experienced dietitians. Work autonomously and as part of a team and assume professional accountability and responsibility for a specific specialist area.

Leads the education and development of others in specialist areas, including external partners. Will take on the role as practice educator in accordance with local dietetics University practice educator requirements. Responsible for maintaining own continuous professional development and supporting the professional development of other dietitians in specialist area.

Leads promotes and participates in research, audits, service development and project work. Lead responsibility for critically appraising, translating, and applying available research and supporting the development and implementation of evidence based practices.

Self-aware and able to modify and role model personal behaviours and actions in order to enhance own performance and support others to do so. Demonstrates personal effectiveness and contributes to and promotes collective and compassionate leadership. Provides leadership and support to others to promote the dietetics profession and dietetics practice. Provides care group or Trust wide expert advice or leadership in own area of specialism.

About us

Our Dietetic Team is the largest and most established Specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability dietetic team in the UK and has strong links with the British Dietetic Association. Our Dietitians also work into Adult Eating disorders, Adult Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Services for Older People and Secure Inpatient Services. We are supported by our Professional Head of Dietetics and have a large group of highly skilled Clinical Specialist and Lead Dietitians.

We have regular speciality team meetings and whole dietetic team events to develop skills, provide peer support; and can provide training to meet the complex needs of the patient group. We have a robust clinical and management supervision structure and support continued professional training and development.

  • Evidence of post-registration Masters level learning Or in the absence of masters level learning o equivalent experience in relevant area. E.g. relevant level 7 courses, researcher role, quality improvement activity, leading service development, project management, strategic leadership, NICE involvement, service evaluation.
  • Substantial clinical experience of complex dietetics delivery in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others.
