Job summary
The North Yorkshire and York CAMHS Eating Disorder Service are looking for 2 Band 6 CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services) Practitioners to join the team. The applicant must hold a professional registration in healthcare or social work.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Community Eating Disorder Service for children and young people which is an established supportive team that offers assessment and a wide variety of evidence-based treatment for young people and families.
The North Yorkshire and York Community Eating Disorder Service is a locality wide team, with main bases in Orca House, York and Dragon Parade Clinic, Harrogate, with additional outreach into North Moor House, Northallerton and Lake House, Scarborough. The successful post holder will be expected to travel within the locality to family homes, clinic bases and paediatric settings depending on demand.
Candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
Main duties of the job
The main elements of the clinical work could include responsibilities such as:
- Supporting and young people and families during mealtimes in a variety of settings using an evidence-based model and care pathway
- Developing and facilitating group work interventions
- Liaising with local paediatric hospitals and visiting families and young people during their admissions
- Delivery of evidence-based interventions for eating disorders
- Comprehensive assessment and risk management for young people and families accessing the eating disorder service.
- Operational responsibilities including supervision of junior members of the team and organisation of rotas.
The eating disorder community team includes clinical psychologists, family therapists, nurses, dietitians, psychiatrists and social workers. Therefore, the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team is a requirement.
Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality.

- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area (within agreed timescale)
- Depending on work area, recognised sign-off mentor (or equivalent) or must be achieved within agreed timescale
- 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
Desirable
- Leadership or management qualification
- CAMHS Degree
- Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice as appropriate to own profession.
- Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy e.g. family therapy, CBT etc.
