An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the mental health team working in HMP Haverigg.
HMP Haverigg is a category D adult male prison, located just outside Millom in the village of Haverigg in Cumbria. The West coast attractions, the Lake District and the 1000ft high fell of Black Combe, are all easily reached from this area.
The Mental Health Team are committed to delivering high quality care. The model of service delivery aims to provide timely, evidence-based and accessible mental health assessment and treatment to meet the needs of patients in prison.
The teams includes a Mental Health Team Manager, Registered Nurses, Psychological Wellbeing Therapists, a Counsellor, as well as regular sessional input from a Psychiatrist.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic and experienced Principal Applied Psychologist.
The post holder would be involved in the collective leadership of the team, offering consultation, advice and support to the team and partners on complex cases. Therole also involves offering assessment, formulation and intervention.
We can train you in a Governed Psychological Therapy (e.g. EMDR/TF-CBT/DBT) and offer supervision andsupport within the role
About us
The post holder will also have wider leadership responsibility across Health and Justice services.
In addition, the post holder will also have a key role in in embedding Trauma Informed Care within the service.

- Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
- Trained in care co-ordination
- Evidence of continuing professional development
