Job summary

The Information Governance Department works within the Trust to provide services that comply with data protection law and support staff in all aspects of keeping patient and staff information safe and secure.

The Privacy Officer is a pivotal role in helping the Trust safeguard personal confidential information whilst facilitating its lawful, fair use and effective sharing to support direct provision of care.

The role requires someone with a tenacious, investigatory nature and the ability to interrogate systems and understand the implications of the information being looked at. An ability to collate and analyse a large amount of data and then apply legislative principles to assess whether a breach of confidentiality has occurred is essential to the role together with the ability to operate within the legal framework of data protection legislation.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to follow an audit trail to its conclusion and to coherently and succinctly write up the results of data analysis. Highly developed computer literacy skills and experience of detecting anomalies in high volumes of data is essential.

Main duties of the job

To play a key role in enabling the Trust to fulfil its legal duty to prevent, detect and deter inappropriate access to personal information.

To monitor access to electronic systems.

To identify potential breaches of policies and procedures relating to privacy and confidentiality.

To undertake technical investigations and audits, providing specialist advice and reports to assist managers and HR informal investigations.

To play a significant role in improving systems, policies and procedures with regard to privacy and confidentiality.

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.

To promote at all times a positive image of the Information Governance Department and the wider Trust.
