This post offers an exciting opportunity for a fixed term 12 month contract within The Teesside Children and Young people Community Eating Disorders Service.
The Trainee Counselling Psychologist will be working primarily within our community team which is based at Acklam Road Hospital in Middlesbrough. We have close links with our colleagues in paediatrics and within locality CAMHS teams. The team is responsible for assessment and treatment of children and young people with an eating disorder up to the age of 18. The team provides direct therapeutic work (both individual and family), physical monitoring, consultation, liaison, advice, and training, and works with young people and families affected by eating disorders as well as local partners in the community including schools and primary care.
We are seeking to appoint someone who is currently completing Doctoral training as a Counselling Psychologist, in their second year of training and has experience in working with Children, Young people and their Families and has an interest in eating disorders. The person would work alongside qualified psychologists/Psychological therapists in the team. On completion of their Doctoral course the person would be eligible to apply for a Band 7 role in the Trust, though this would need to be via an open recruitment process.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work independently but under the guidance of a clinical supervisor. The role will help the post holder develop their skills in providing specialist eating disorder psychological assessments as well as a therapeutic, consultative, and advisory services in relation to children and young people with eating disorders, their families, and carers, according to identified clinical need.
Applicants would ideally have experience in working within Children's Mental health Services and will need to show strong patient-centred values. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent mental health care and evidence-based interventions.

- Specialist knowledge of Applied psychology acquired through relevant prior experience, undergraduate teaching and/or clinically supervised practice, and the potential to build upon and extend such knowledge through training.
- A foundation of undergraduate-level knowledge of research design and methodology

- First degree in Psychology, or an equivalent qualification, which confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society
- Evidence from undergraduate and any postgraduate study of a capacity to undertake study at a Doctoral level, as indicated by a good upper-second degree or its equivalent, or by postgraduate study in a field related to Clinical Psychology
