Job summary

Do you have experience working with individuals who experiencing mental health support needs? If yes, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to work within our Older Adult Community Mental Health Team.

The successful applicant will work across Acomb Health Centre and Worsley Court within Selby. We provide community based support to older adults living with complex mental health needs.

You will work alongside a wide multidisciplinary team to deliver the Occupational Therapy pathway both providing assessment and care planning occupational based interventions.

Outside of your direct team you will work as part of the Occupational Therapy community within the organisation to engage with colleagues and build your professional base. The successful applicant will be supported by the OT Lead in the safe implementation of the Occupational Therapy pathway and the service team manager.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be supported to deliver the evidenced based Occupational Therapy pathway to those living with both functional and organic mental health needs. Whilst the successful applicant will bring their specialist skills to the care and treatment of our service users they will also inform a holistic view of the lived experience for those we support.

As we work with older adults a good understanding of the prevalence of comorbid health presentations is essential.

You will hold a varied caseload which includes complex cases, for which you will receive appropriate support and supervision both from your professional group and the wider leadership team.

You will be responsible for managing your own time and work diary whilst planning and communicating with families and carers to provide the best outcomes for the service user.

You will be supported in the mentorship of students from local universities and will supervise colleagues within the team on the delivery of occupational informed interventions from your assessment and recommendations.

The successful candidate will be a valued and beneficial member of the team supporting a wholistic approach to care. As part of this you may be responsible for the onward referral of people to third sector and specialist support where this is not possible within the commissioned service model.

  • Registration with HCPC
  • Successful completion of preceptorship year as a graduate occupational therapist (or equivalent in non-NHS sectors)
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills course (or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale)
  • Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (or willingness to undertake within an agreed timescale)
  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator (APPLE)

Experience

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience and transferable skill for the role.

Desirable

  • Experience of completing assessment and intervention with Older Adults in the community

  • Experience of delivering an Occupational Therapy Pathway
