Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit three Band 7 Clinical Specialist Nurses (CNS) working within the Integrated Learning Disabilities Teams (ILDT). ILDT's work in partnership with Durham County Council (DCC) and Tees, Esk and Wear Valley TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust. Each Band 7 CNS will be aligned to one of the three locality teams based in Seaham, Spennymoor or Chester-Le-Street.

Care and compassion for supporting people with a learning disability is essential and the candidate should have extensive knowledge of contemporary priorities within learning disability practice.There will be an expectation to have high clinical standards and knowledge of the TEWV clinical pathways and knowledge of The Care Act 2014 which are fundamental integrated ways of working.

An essential part of the role is being part of a collective leadership team to clinically lead the multidisciplinary health team and enable effective working with our partners in delivering the best possible care for all our service users.

This is a new role and the right candidate will have the ability to adapt to changing priorities and service pressures in order to support the ILDT and ensure excellent outcomes for our service users.

Main duties of the job

To be the professional lead for nurses in the designated specialty, leading on professional development and ensuring the delivery of robust evidence based practice

To undertake ongoing audit of care and service delivery, underpinned by research and evidence-based practice.

To coordinate and deliver clinical supervision to support all nursing staff within the area of responsibility.

Support people with learning disabilities to access all opportunities to improve or maintain their health.

Support Care Providers to recognise the importance of their role in promoting healthy lifestyles for people in their services.

Work with health professionals to comply with their legal duty to make 'reasonable adjustments' to the way they make their services available to people with learning disabilities, to make them as accessible and effective as they would be for people without disabilities.

Working hours: Monday - Friday 9-5pm. Requirement to also be part of the LD nurse on call rota (8pm - 8am).

Essential

  • Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
  • Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving
  • Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
  • Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area Or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years and
  • Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification e.g Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP (Independent Prescriber)
  • And have Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
  • Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field.
  • Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours
  • Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice
