Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Higher Assistant Psychologist to work with the TEWV Trustwide Autism Service. This is a full-time, 12 month fixed term post and offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work both clinically and at a service development level.

The successful applicant must have a good honours degree in psychology. Significant experience of working with autistic people (children, young people or adults) is essential for this post, as is experience of working in a mental health setting. You must be motivated, possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist the role involves (as a minimum):

Working for the Trustwide Autism Service across all specialties in the Trust as well as corporate services to ensure that all autistic children, young people and adults have access to an equitable, reasonably adjusted service from TEWV.

Developing training materials relevant to the reasonable adjustment workshops delivered by the service with particular reference to inpatient services.

Supporting the delivery of autism awareness training across all specialties within the Trust

Working with experts by experience to support co-production

Collecting data across a range of activities, analysis and presentation of this data to inform the development of the Service

Attending MDT meetings as appropriate.

Train all staff in autism awareness, with relevant clinical staff trained at a higher level.

Ensure all staff understand the impact of Autism on Mental Health.

Make sure staff can make reasonable adjustments for autistic people.

Help autistic people to access mental health services.

Provide a clear pathway to autism assessment.

Ensure all autistic young people have a consistent, high-quality transition plan in place when they move to adult services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Psychology degree
  • Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, youth work, work with offenders and/or research design and analysis

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a psychology assistant (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with people with mental ill health difficulties (paid or voluntary)
  • Experience using statistical software packages e.g. SPSS
