Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Principal Applied Psychologist to join our Trust wide adolescent forensic mental health outpatient service (AFOS/FCAMHS). The post has developed from a successful joint agency bid to the Durham Police Crime Commissioner to support in the reduction of serious youth violence across the region. The successful candidate will work predominantly into Durham and Darlington Youth Justice Services (YJS) leading in the delivery of trauma informed care. The adolescent forensic service has established links with both the YJS teams. Through a combination of consultation, formulation, direct intervention and training, the post holder will contribute to the service's aims of understanding and reducing serious youth violence in Durham and Darlington.

Main duties of the job

To provide a psychology service to Youth Justice Services in Durham and Darlington.

To provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention.

To offer advice and consultation on young people's psychological care, specifically colleagues in the Youth Justice Service.

To provide training to YJS teams to embed trauma informed care in line with the Trust strategy.

To provide supervision where appropriate to qualified staff, trainees and assistants.

To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

To liaise closely with the wide FCAMHS/AFOS team.

Applicants will be required to have post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS and be registered in as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC. Significant experience and competencies in delivering and supervising evidence based psychological intervention is also essential.

You will have excellent communication skills to promote and develop interagency working and have experience of working with systems working with young people who present with complex and multiple needs. You will work autonomously within professional guidelines, TEWV trust values and YJS processes. You will work well within multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to overall service delivery improvements as required. You will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development. A specific area of research has been identified as part of the project which seeks to understand female youth violence.
