Job summary

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust are looking for volunteers to become Associate Hospital Managers in the York and Scarborough area. AHMs can claim travel expenses when applicable as well as an honorarium payment for each meeting.

The role of our Associate Hospital Managers (AHM) is to review the detentions of patients subject to the Mental Health Act 1983 in Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. They read and listen to evidence from patients, carers and professionals and maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to information gleaned during this process.

AHMs must have the ability to make judgements based upon written and oral evidence and must be able to convey these judgements appropriately to service users and/or carers.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates must be able to communicate sensitively and appropriately with professionals, patients and their families. As part of a 3 person panel they must have the ability to form and articulate rational conclusions on the basis of written and verbal evidence and function effectively as a team member. AHMs must attend a minimum of 12 meetings per year - face to face and remotely as required. They must agree to complete online mandatory training yearly or as required, attend training given by Trust Solicitor and take part in yearly and 3 yearly reviews.

The role will have a probationary period of 6 months.
