Job summary

We are delighted to offer the full time post of a Specialist Clinical Psychologist working onto the Westerdale Organic ward to join the team of Inpatient psychologists who work across the two Mental Health Services for Older People wards based at Roseberry Park.

"We welcome applications from existing Band 8As, existing Band 7s and newly qualified psychologists. The successful candidate will be provided with supervision and developmental support to help them to progress from Band 7 to Band 8a. For those not appointed as an 8A, re-banding as an 8a will only be considered once there is a consensus that successful candidate meets the competencies specified for a Band 8A Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist"

This is an exciting opportunity to innovate, build upon, develop and grow the psychological application, interventions and resources available to patients, carers and staff on the ward.

Main duties of the job

The Westerdale ward is an Organic ward that provides an inpatient admission stay for people who either have a diagnosis of dementia or who are experiencing dementia related difficulties that are sufficient enough to require an admission.

The applicant will join a team of psychologists, including a Consultant, 3 assistant psychologists and trainee psychologists on placement. The successful candidate will work with an experienced multi-professional team to help support the needs of our patients, carers and staff.

The role will involve facilitating and supporting the delivery of psychological assessments, and psychologically informed interventions. The psychologist will use their knowledge of challenging behaviour to inform formulations and behaviour support plans, and interventions with the aim of reducing distress for our patients on the ward. In addition the role will involve supervising the assistant who works onto the ward and will involve investing in the ward and the ward staff to support the adoption of psychologically informed interventions.

As psychologists we work with the ward staff to support our patients in living well with cognitive difficulties. Psychology is well established in all the areas across Mental Health Services for Older People and you will be joining a thriving and dynamic group of psychologists who will support your development. We are a growing group of psychology on the ward and you will join assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists and qualified psychologists who form part of the psychology group. This is an exciting opportunity to build and develop the psychological resources available to patients, carers and staff on the ward.
