Job summary

The Forensic Service offers you the exciting opportunity to work within the Secure Inpatient Service.

The successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to access further training for at least one accredited Evidence Based Psychological Therapy.

The service operates a model which is recovery focused and trauma informed, providing treatments and interventions which are evidence based, and which ensure that patient / service user safety remains at the centre of all that we do.

The Forensic Service will provide you with access to relevant training opportunities in your workplace to support you in developing your knowledge, experience and skills. You will have the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on the delivery of care whilst being supported by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team

We welcome applications from existing Band 8a or Band 7 Applied Psychologists as well as newly qualified Applied Psychologists due to qualify within the next 6 months. A successful candidate taking up the post at Band 7 will be provided with clinical/professional and managerial supervision and developmental support to help them to progress from Band 7 to Band 8a, according to a clear set of criteria. The transition to Band 8a will only be considered once there is a professional and managerial consensus that they meet competencies for a Band 8a Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

The ethos of the service is to work collaboratively with service users and carers in the completion of assessments, treatment, intervention planning and rehabilitation to enable a person-centered recovery-focused approach to care, meeting their needs in a holistic manner.

The successful applicant will be joining a well established and highly skilled team. Currently the team offers expertise in Offence Focused Treatments, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, Schema Therapy, Art Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Neuropsychology. We have a good track record of developing the psychology workforce. Wellbeing is a priority of both the psychology team and the wider workforce and as such psychologists/psychological therapists/psychotherapists are involved in leading initiatives such as trauma informed care and an overarching relational model based on cognitive analytic therapy.

Candidates will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake direct clinical work with patients in a secure inpatient setting and provide clinical supervision to other practitioners where needed. They will also be required to lead with the team on complex cases and contribute to the ongoing development of the secure inpatient service.

Essential

  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice - Band 8a
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
  • Trained in care co-ordination
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
