Job summary

Exciting opportunities have arisen for mental health nurses, social worker or OT to work in the Liaison and Diversion team based at Durham, Peterlee & Darlington police custody suites.

Liaison and Diversion is a vulnerability model service working with anyone from the age of 10 upwards.

The service provides assessment and liaison for people who are either currently in the criminal justice system or at risk of entering the criminal justice system in close collaboration with partner agencies.

You will be expected to work 4 shifts a week, 2 x 8am to 8pm and 2 x 8am to 4pm and working in the courts on a rotational basis.

The successful applicant will be subject to enhanced police vetting.

One of these posts are being advertised to address a temporary need of 12 months however the Trust has made the commitment to offer Registered Nurses a permanent contract with the Trust. In the event that the need for this post ends, a suitable alternative post will be offered (this does not apply to other registered professions). Applicants should be aware that alternatives may require some flexibility on role and/or location.

Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis.

In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and assessment of both new and existing service users within the magistrates court and police custody suites. They will be expected to demonstrate high quality assessment and leadership skills.

The post holder will offer advice and support to criminal justice staff. Carry out face to face assessments, follow up after release and facilitate access to appropriate local services.

You will act as shift co-ordinator and take on a day-to-day clinical supervisory role for colleagues including navigators, support workers, practitioner and peer mentor apprentices.

The post requires good IT skills, the ability to work flexibly and autonomously as well as contributing to an MDT approach. A strong understanding and commitment to team working is vital.
