Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist to work on an innovative project within the Adult Mental Health Services (Community and Inpatient) in North Yorkshire, York and Selby. We are looking for someone who can work alongside our clinicians supporting the provision of high quality, reasonably adjusted mental health services for autistic people who access our AMH Teams.
This is a full-time, fifteen month post and offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work both clinically and at a service development level.
Main duties of the job
Working across Adult Mental Health Services in North Yorkshire, York and Selby to ensure that all autistic adults have access to an equitable, reasonably adjusted mental health service from TEWV.
Supporting the delivery of autism training for staff (both awareness training and more specialist).
Monitoring the implementation of reasonable adjustments within the teams addressing all aspects of the way services are delivered and making them accessible for autistic people.
Working alongside clinical staff to support the delivery of reasonably adjusted psychological therapies.
Working with experts by experience to support co-production.

This project is aligned the TEWV Trustwide Autism Project which works across the whole Trust and across all specialties.
The autism project aims are to:
Train all staff in autism awareness, with relevant clinical staff trained at a higher level.
Ensure all staff understand the impact of Autism on Mental Health.
Make sure staff can make reasonable adjustments for autistic people.
Help autistic people to access mental health services.
Provide a clear pathway to autism assessment.
Provide diagnostic services at the highest possible standard.
Ensure all autistic young people have a consistent, high-quality transition plan in place when they move to adult services.
The project was recognised as being innovative, winning the National Autism Society's Professionals Awards Winner in 2019 for Outstanding Health Services.

Co production is key to the development and improvement of our services.
The post holder will also offer specialist autism supervision, advice, consultation and training to Adult Mental Health Teams within North Yorkshire, York and Selby. The successful candidate will work under the support and guidance of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist within the Trustwide Autism Project. Training and service developmental opportunities are key parts of the role. There are opportunities for innovation and leadership as we look to continually improve our services.
The post holder will work closely with psychology colleagues based both within the AMH services within North Yorkshire, York and Selby. There is a strong psychology network across the trust and we have good links with our local DClinPsy courses, providing trainee placements and teaching.
The post holder will:
Be accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of highly specialist psychological care to autistic clients with highly complex mental health conditions.
Be compassionate in meeting the needs of autistic clients, their carers and families.
Provide autism clinical supervision and training to members of the multidisciplinary team.
Undertake formal research/audit/evaluation part of the job and act as field supervisor to doctorate trainees.
Be proactive in continual service improvement within own area.
Support the provision of highly specialist assessment of autistic clients with highly complex conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources.
Be responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client.
Be responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.
Support the development of autism aware risk assessments and risk management for individual clients and provides specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management of autistic people.
Formulate plans for highly specialist psychological therapy and/or management of autistic clients mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice.
