Job summary

As part of the new Mental Health contract awarded to Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, we are looking for registered mental health nurses to join us at HMP Hull Mental Health Team on Wellbeing Unit.

This vacancy is open to Band 5 Registered Nurses with a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience and successful completion of preceptorship. This is a developmental post with progression to a Band 6 upon meeting the criteria within the Band 6 job description and competency framework specific to Health & Justice Services.

The Wellbeing Unit will:

  • offer residents with capacity urgent assessment and treatment, intervention and medication to stabilise their MH and promote recovery.

  • establish pathways with regional secure units to ensuring safe transfer and remission to and from secure services when appropriate

The wellbeing unit will be clinically led and operationally enabled by the team working together within the service.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse. You'll have a flexible approach to working within a team that encourages new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.

You will have experience providing compassionate mental health care and have an understanding of the criminal justice system. You will make on going assessment of need reflecting individual circumstances and provide relevant interventions and input to discharge planning. You will be required to have strong coordination and planning skills, with the ability to make decisions based on comprehensive health and risk assessments.

You should be innovative, flexible and able to engage with patients with complex needs. You will be committed to a person-centred approach and have the ability to prioritise.

We are looking for clinicians who will thrive working in a busy environment amongst a wider well resourced team of multidisciplinary professionals, as well as alongside partner providers from a variety of internal and external services.

HMP Hull is a Category B prison. The establishment serves all courts in the region and accepts prisoners on remand or sentenced by the courts. The predominant population is made up of remand prisoners in the early days of custody whilst engaging in the court processes.

Qualification

Essential

  • RNMH,/RNLD or registered practitioner, current professional registration with NMC or relevant professional body.
  • Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescales).
  • Recognised sign-off mentor or must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Qualified practitioner in e.g. CBT, DBT, PSI, dual diagnosis etc. (within agreed timescale).
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Leadership or management qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a community setting.
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
  • Working collaborative with other professionals and organisaitons

  • Experience of working in Forensic Services
