Job summary

Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce that we are currently recruiting a Peer Co-Ordinator for Durham AMH Community Services.

The Community Transformation is part of the NHS Long Term Plan and represents a shift in the way we currently deliver care. It is aligned to a model that considers the whole person, beyond their diagnosis, and looks at what the whole system has to offer (primary care, local authority, voluntary care sector, police, education as well as families and friends). The aim is to work together to ensure we collectively deliver trauma informed, person centred care to meet an individual's wide-ranging needs.

Main duties of the job

The Peer Co-Ordinator for Durham AMH and MHSOP Community Mental Health Transformation and Services will be a challenging and rewarding leadership role:

The post holder will provide specialist Peer Support leadership and expertise to the cocreation and implementation of the Community Mental Health Transformation in Durham and the development of the system Peer Support Services in line with the Community Mental Health Framework and TEWV Peer Support Strategy as appropriate. This will involve a rangeof leadership input in co-producing and implementing systemwide peer support developments - including commissioning and procurement processes. It will also involve a wide range of other partnership work including: scoping and engaging with a wide range of existing community peer support and community resources, developing systemwide peer support networks, engaging with service users and their families and carers.

Alongside this they will also work developing and embedding TEWV Peer Worker roles within Durham Community Services in line with the TEWV Trustwide Peer Support Strategy and implementation: this will involve leadership work, preparation of teams ready for Peer Workers to join, and the recruitment, training and supervision of Peer Workers in DurhamCommunity Teams.

About us

For this role, we are looking for someone who has personal experience of mental health challenges and who has personal experience of accessing secondary or inpatient/tertiary mental health services. You will have substantial experience in the development of peer support and of working in lived experience essential roles. You will have personal experience of delivering formal peer support to service users.

  • Educated to degree level OR has equivalent experience developing and delivering Peer Support in a community or NHS setting.
  • Completed Trust approved Peer Support Training
  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2

Desirable

  • Completed Trust Trauma Informed Peer Support Course
  • Completed an accredited Peer Support training course

Experience

Essential

  • Personal experience of mental health challenges or a learning disability that is relevant to the specific role advertised
  • Personal experience of accessing secondary (or inpatient) mental health services
  • Experience of working as a peer worker or in another lived experience essential role
  • Experience of delivering peer support in a paid or voluntary role, or in a user led environment
  • Experience in delivering supervision or co-supervision to peers
