An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist has arisen in the Regional Mental Health and Deafness Service. This post is a 6 months post to support staffing changes within the service, however there is potential that the post may be available on a more permanent basis following this period.
The service is a specialised mental health service for deaf people from 18 years onwards, covering Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Darlington and Teesside, meaning the postholder will also potentially work into the CNTW catchment area.
Main duties of the job
This is a tertiary mental health service for Deaf and Deafblind people, who have a range of mental health issues. The service works in partnership with local Community Mental Health Teams, offering assessment, treatment and advice. The local CMHT will take care-coordination/lead professional responsibility - as a tertiary service, we do not offer care co-ordination
The post holder will be expected to work with a defined client group in order to provide time specific interventions. The purpose of their intervention will be to maximise a service users' ability to access appropriate mental health services. The post holder will work with service users and community mental health teams to adapt care plans, programmes and, where required, will provide specialised therapy provision as part of their overall care.
The team also offers a substantial amount of training to a wide variety of audiences and works collaboratively to increase awareness and understanding of the challenges face by the client group.

- Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
- Specialist knowledge of Mental Health & Deafness acquired through training & experience
- British sign language level 2 - minimum
- Willingness to undertake British sign language level 3
- Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving.
- Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
- Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area Or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years
- And within the first year of being in post hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification e.g Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP (level 3 Independent Prescriber)
- Have Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
- Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field.
- Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours
