Job summary

North Durham Community CAMHS team is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Trainee Psychological Therapist (Systemic Family Therapy). The team have a well-established Family Therapy clinic and Systemic Family Therapy is a highly valued resource. We are seeking to continue to develop and expand our offer to children, young people and their families across both our bases (North End House, Durham and Derwentside Child & Family Centre, Consett).

As a team we have a great emphasis on peer support, supervision and continuing professional development. The successful candidate will be joining a skilled and experienced multi-disciplinary workforce, comprising psychologists, psychological therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, child psychotherapy and support workers, who all value the contribution of the Psychological professions. The team have a wide range of therapeutic skills including CBT, Systemic Family Therapy, EMDR, DDP and DBT.

The role incorporates opportunities for assessment, formulation, 1-1 and clinic based therapy delivery, and care co-ordination. The successful candidate will also be joining a supportive and proactive Psychology Professions community within the Durham and Darlington locality, where we all share a fundamental commitment to promoting the mental health and wellbeing of the children and families in our area and delivering the best service possible.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will be required to have either RMN or equivalent mental health core qualification (RMN/OT/SW) and be registered with a professional regulatory body. They will have experience of delivering psychological informed interventions to people experiencing severe mental health problems in a secondary care setting.

They will be required to have a strong demonstrable interest in Systemic Family Therapy and to have completed and passed an AFT accredited Systemic Family Therapy Foundation course. A willingness to engage in further study and practice towards eventual accreditation as a Systemic Family Therapist is essential.

During training study and placement outside the Durham and Darlington locality may be required. There will be no costs for further training incurred by the individual however the offer of trainee post to the successful applicant will be contingent on acceptance (or working towards acceptance) on to the next level accredited training course.

On achieving accreditation as a systemic family psychotherapist with UK council for psychotherapy we would seek to upgrade the post holder to a Band 7 Psychological Therapist role/salary.
