Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated newly qualified nurses who have a passion for older peoples' mental health and the services we provide. In exchange we will offer you:- a fantastic preceptorship programme, talent management and development and appraisal, and a progression route to a band 6 senior nurse post that will be subject to a portfolio which will be supported by a competency framework. You will be expected to receive your preceptorship programme within the Stockton/ Darlington team; and you will gain experience in our inpatient and crisis services which will be a part of your development programme and competency framework/portfolio before offered a band 6 post in one of these services in the MHSOP speciality.

This post is only open to those candidates who already have their NMC registration in place and have successfully completed the preceptorship programme. Please note: Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a different process.

Main duties of the job

  • Promotes and maintains safety, privacy and dignity of all patients in the delivery of patient centred care, recognising and respecting differences including spiritual and cultural beliefs
  • Takes steps to obtain patient consent to care and treatment
  • Responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of patient harm, abuse or neglect
  • Responsible for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of patients are maintained at all.
  • Has responsibility for own caseload of patients and takes responsibility as lead professional or care co-ordinator as appropriate.
  • Assesses patients including those with complex needs and develops, implements and evaluates intervention plans.
  • Ensures intervention plans are based on current risk assessment and evidence based practice
  • Undertakes risk assessments in accordance with the Trust's Clinical Risk Assessment and Management Policy, devising and implementing actions and intervention plans.
  • May be required to accompany and provide support to patients within a variety of community settings, dependent on current risk assessment.
  • Supports individual patients and their families/carers in the community, liaising with other support services
  • Provides health education and advice on health promotion to patients and their carers.
  • Responsible for decision making and coordination in a crisis situation, where necessary seeking advice and guidance from other relevant professionals.

  • RNMH, current professional registration with NMC.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Trained clinical supervisor (within agreed timescale)
  • MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in AdultEducation or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale
