Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity within Secure Inpatient Services to join our Team. You will be required to be; innovative, flexible and able to engage clients with complex needs. Strong team working principles are essential and you will network with a variety of people as well as work in partnership with a range of different agencies both internal and external.

This is an opportunity for experienced clinicians to join a busy clinical environment, you will be joining forensic services during a period of change. If you're innovative and wish to shape your clinical environment we would welcome your thoughts and skills to help us develop the service further, your ideas will be welcomed and supported by our Quality Improvement Team who will allow you to develop, plan, test and implement any service improvements. You will be required to have experience working with those with complex needs and work both autonomously and within a team making decisions based on comprehensive mental health and risk assessment.

Forensic services is a unique environment to work given each wards proximity and the support mechanisms in place for staff at any level. Staff wellbeing is imperative to the performance of the service therefore we will provide you with all the support, learning and resources you need to do your job as effectively as possible.

Main duties of the job

To improve the lives of people with mental ill health and/or learning disabilities by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing.

To be compassionate in meeting the needs of patients and their carers, ensuring that all clinical staff practice in accordance with the Department of Health 6 Cs: Care, Compassion, Commitment, Competence, Courage and Communication.

To be responsible for the provision of excellence in clinical care, providing clinical leadership to the ward/unit team and promoting a culture of evidence-based practice.

To be professionally accountable and responsible for the standards of patient care on the ward/unit and, in accordance with out of hours responsibilities, within the designated locality.

Act as named nurse or care co-ordinator as appropriate.

To facilitate others in the team to develop competence by providing leadership, day to day supervision, clinical advice and clinical supervision to registered nurses, associate practitioners, healthcare assistants and students and to act as a role model displaying the Trust's values and behaviours towards both patients, carers and staff.

To be committed to and take a lead role in activities integral to the Trust's Quality Improvement System.

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental ill health and/or learning disabilities.

To promote at all times a positive image of the Inpatient Services and the wider Trust.
