Job summary
The Eating Disorders Team for Children and Young People in North Yorkshire and York are looking to appoint an Eating Disorders Paediatric Liaison Clinician into the team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop links between Community Eating Disorder Services and Acute Trusts across the locality. The role will be embedded within the Community Eating Disorder Service, but will have an active role in supporting young people when they are admitted to a paediatric ward. Therefore, the post holder will have the flexibility to be based within Acute Trust Hospitals and the Community Eating Disorder Team depending on the individual needs of young people.
The Eating Disorders Service can be fast paced and the ideal applicant will be extremely organized and self-motivated to provide high quality assessment and formulation for the young people within the service.
The nature of this work requires a calm, consistent approach to some of the most challenging clinical situations alongside a willingness to be compassionate, creative and flexible in delivering care to young people and their families/carers. As the team continues to develop you will be given the opportunity to influence and contribute to service development, providing a high degree of job satisfaction and personal progression.
Main duties of the job
This is a pivotal role in our service, with the aim to offer joint care planning and support for young people whilst on the ward, and the opportunity to develop relationships, deliver training and support ward staff. This leads to a better experience and reduced length of stay for young people with eating disorders on paediatric wards.
The Community Eating Disorder Service for Children and Young People provide specialist support to young people with eating disorders and their families. We offer timely assessment, therapeutic interventions, specialist dietetic input and physical health monitoring with the aim of supporting young people to recover. The successful post holder will have the opportunity to hold a small caseload as part of the community team, and will coordinate the care of young people with eating disorders and their families, through triage, assessment and therapeutic intervention, in addition to the liaison aspect of their role.

The successful candidate will be able to confidently support, advise and guide partner agency staff in considering the complex needs of young people with eating disorders in challenging clinical situations. As such, previous experience of working with young people with eating disorders would be desirable. The successful candidate should also have the ability to make sound clinical decisions to help reduce and manage the risk of harm to a young person, liaising effectively with other agencies and professionals as appropriate.
Our team covers the largest geographical area in the trust and as such we have 4 bases. These are located in York, Scarborough, Harrogate and Northallerton; the successful candidate would have the opportunity to decide between York or Harrogate as a base, with travel time and mileage benefits. The post holder will be expected to travel around the locality during their working hours to meet the clinical needs of young people because we function as a locality team. This post requires the candidate to have good communication skills, interpersonal skills, good time management and organization skills.
