An exciting opportunity has emerged for an applied psychologist to join Health & Justice Services. The role involves working collaboratively with service users who have learning disabilities and/or autism and forensic needs to prevent contact with the criminal justice system. In addition, the role involves working closely with secure services and provider collaboratives to promote timely discharges and support transitions to the community.

We are seeking a HCPC registered psychologist or psychological therapist and welcome applicants from recently qualified psychologists / psychological therapists (band 7) and experienced psychologists / psychological therapists (band 8a). Banding with be aligned with experience and skills. In addition, for those commencing post at Band 7, we will train you in a governed psychological therapy (e.g., DBT/EMDR/Schema) to support your progression. The service is committed to supporting clinicians' personal development in a range of areas including assessment, governed therapies, supervision, research, and teaching / training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Forensic Outreach Liaison Service based within the North Yorkshire area which sits with Health and Justice services. The role involves completing risk and psychometric assessment, formulating highly complex presentations and the delivery of governed psychological interventions within a community setting. Supervising other professionals to deliver lower-level interventions is an essential part of the role and aligns with the services stepped care model of interventions offered. The post holder will be a key member of the leadership team influencing psychological thinking whilst supporting the Trust values of compassion, respect, and responsibility. Furthermore, they will be central figures in promoting and supporting team wellbeing and resilience.

Skills and training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) would be an advantage, as close liaison with the PBS Lead and the services Dialectical Intensive Therapies Team are central to effective treatment planning. Close working with secondary ALD teams is crucial to effective care planning, therefore, skills in consultation and offering advice/supervision to professionals from other teams working with highly complex and contentious cases is vitally important.

The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to audit, service evaluation and research as part of service development, attending conferences, presenting, and disseminating best practice.

The psychology team within SOTT/FOLS currently comprises of one Principal Applied Psychologist, one Specialist Applied Psychologist, two Trainee Clinical Psychologist, a Trainee Counselling Psychologist, and a Higher Assistant Psychologist. Psychology meets for weekly huddles and have regular away days to ensure connectedness, standard working and effective team working.

The service has close links with other psychology specialisms across the Trust and there are strong links to the Teesside Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme and Counselling Psychology Doctorate with the specialty providing academic, research and clinical experience components.
