Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced registered nurse/social worker into the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist/Advanced Practitioner working within an Eating Disorders service for young people across Harrogate and Northallerton. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to become part of a specialized multi disciplinary team comprising of Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Family Therapists, Dietitians and Health Care Assistants who provide assessment and therapeutic intervention to young people with eating disorders and their families.

To apply for this role you will have experience in children's mental health services and/or eating disorder services. You will also have an understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act), detailed understanding of Safeguarding and Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.

Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis.

In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering a high standard of clinical leadership to the team; ensuring clinical standards are maintained in the delivery of care across all aspects of the service. The nature of this work requires a calm, consistent approach to some challenging clinical situations alongside a willingness to be compassionate, creative and flexible in delivering clinical care.

The successful applicant will be required to contribute to and lead ongoing service development and offer clinical supervision to staff members. The ability to make balanced decisions and use positive risk taking approaches, whilst managing potentially high pressured situations is an essential part of this role.

Acting as a resource in providing specialist advice, training, guidance and consultation to the team and partner agencies is also an integral aspect of the role. The applicant will be an essential member of the multi disciplinary team and will be able to facilitate the co-coordination of care on a multi disciplinary basis to children and young people.

The North Yorkshire and York eating disorder service is a specialist community based service offering assessment, physical monitoring and therapeutic intervention to young people and their families across the locality. The team operates within a multi disciplinary team approach, with frequent opportunities for discussion, reflection and supervision to ensure the care delivery is person centered, meeting the needs of young people and families.

The service has expanded over recent years, which has enabled the team to enhance the service offer, whilst maximizing on service development and individual development opportunities to improve care delivery and enhance the skills of individuals.
