Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse(s) within the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys AMH Inpatient service based at West Park Hospital on the PICU ward , Cedar Ward.

Cedar ward is a purpose built mental health ward providing a range of services including 10 inpatient bedrooms with en-suite facilities for working age adults . The hospital has numerous vocational and therapeutic areas in a friendly, caring and therapeutic environment.

The PICU ward provides intensive nursing for those with acute mental health disorders.

Each inpatient ward is fully equipped with appropriate activity and therapeutic space to enable patients to recover in a timely way so that they can be safely discharged back into their community with identified support packages.

The treatments and interventions offered include:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Psychological Therapy (inc. psychologically informed care)
  • social activities
  • gym sessions
  • outdoor activities
  • access to external agencies as and when required ie housing, CRB
  • patient involvement via community meeting
  • chaplaincy services
  • involvement in formulation meeting planning, care on the ward and discharge planning
  • trauma informed care
  • on discharge patients are offered the chance to become involved on interview panels.

Main duties of the job

Daily roles would include the following :

- Taking, receiving and complying comprehensive handovers.

-Share/lead in the daily report out with the extended MDT.

-To allocate tasks to the team, appropriate to their skill level and experience.

-Attend Formulation's/reviews/discharges, where you would contribute, document and arrange.

-Contact with the wider MDT on a daily basis.

-Contact and engagements with families/carers.

-1:1 interaction with patients.

-Administer medication.

-Mentor of students.

-Supervision.

-Well written documentation, care plans etc.

Daily MDT report outs and discussions aid the holistic approach to our care on Cedar Ward and contribute to the effective treatment and management of each patient, whilst considering discharge planning throughout their in-patient journey.

Cedar Ward works collaboratively with patient's relatives and carers to provide needs led, patient centred approach, managing risk, developing a plan of care and recovery focused therapeutic interventions, working towards a safe planned discharge.

We will support you by offering regular supervision, training opportunities and encourage your development and role within this developing team on the delivery of Patient Centred Care, support for carers and evidence based practice.

The successful applicants will be expected to work shifts covering 24/7 days and nights and public holidays.

  • RNMH, current professional registration with NMC.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescale).
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale.

Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

  • Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
