Job summary

Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Service North Yorkshire and York - Band 6 Senior Community Mental Health Practitioners.

An exciting opportunity is available to join the North Yorkshire and York Perinatal Mental Health Team. We are a specialist service that strives to deliver excellent standards of care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems. We are looking for a highly motivated mental health practitioners with an interest in perinatal mental health, however further specialist training and supervision will be provided to the successful candidates. An ability to work flexibly and independently around the needs of our families is a priority.

Current posts are available in York, Scarborough, Harrogate and Northallerton.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking those with experience of assessment and safety management of service users within the community, this includes excellent communication skills with a detailed knowledge of safeguarding procedures. You will also have knowledge of interventions, including psychological interventions to support our mothers, babies and families. Our clinical team includes Psychiatry, psychology, advanced nurse practitioners, operational manager, Nursing, occupational therapy, Nursery Nurse and Peer support workers.

About us

The post holder will support the clinical leadership in the development of the service to meet the perinatal ambitions within the NHS Long Term Plan over the coming years.

The post holders may have to travel across the locality as required. Being a car driver is therefore essential.

  • Current professional registration with an approved professional body.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Recognised sign-off mentor, clinical educator or equivalent. Must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education. Must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a care environment.
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
