Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a split post role for a Psychologist to join the Mental Health Team at HMP Frankland and HMP Durham. The post is full time, although we would consider part time, working into one of the prison locations.
We welcome applicants from newly qualified psychologists and those with experience and the banding with be aligned accordingly.
These two prisons offer considerable variety. HMP Durham is the local remand prison. The post holder would be involved in the collective leadership of the team, offering consultation, advice and support to the team and partners on complex cases. The role would also involve supporting staff wellbeing.
HMP Frankland is the local, high secure establishment. The role here would involve offering assessment, formulation and intervention, providing an opportunity to develop clinical experience.
We will train you in a Governed Psychological Therapy (e.g. EMDR/DBT) and offer extensive supervision and support with the role overall. We welcome applicants from those wanting to gain experience in a prison/forensic setting.
Main duties of the job
The post within the mental health teams provide a fantastic opportunity to further develop clinically whilst being responsible for the provision of specialist psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and consultation. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team working alongside members of prison operational staff. The successful post-holder will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and preferably have experience of risk management in prison or forensic settings or an interest in working in this setting.

The model of service delivery aims to provide timely, evidence-based and accessible mental health assessment and treatment to meet the needs of patients in prison. The teams includes a Mental Health Team Manager, Registered Nurses, Psychological Wellbeing Therapists, a Counsellor, a Higher Assistant Psychologist (HAP) as well as regular sessional input from a Psychiatrist.
