Job summary

The Access to Mental Wellbeing Team is based at Huntington House in York and provides assessment and brief intervention for the adult population across the York and Selby area. The service is a first contact with mental health services for working age adults and provides assessments for a wide range of mental health difficulties and severity. Following assessment, clinical recommendations are made in collaboration with service users and carers regarding appropriate next steps. Recommendations for mental health support may include onward referral to local Community Mental Health Teams, third sector organisations, or brief interventions within our own team.

There is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist (part time - 30 hours) to join a service which values psychological input. The service is constantly growing and developing to meet the needs of service users and the demand for mental health care. There is scope for the successful applicant to be actively involved in the development of the team as a whole, as well as developing the role of psychology more specifically.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant would support the provision of psychologically informed interventions, as well as delivering direct therapy. Interventions offered by the team are provided within a brief intervention model for mild to moderate mental health issues, including emotional dysregulation, low mood, anxiety, and eating disorders. These interventions are provided both individually and in group formats. Our brief interventions are both CBT and DBT informed, and cognitive behavioural therapy is the primary therapy modality currently.

The team has a strong focus on Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) working, the successful applicant would have a key role within the MDT in promoting psychological understanding.

The training and development of clinical team members is a key priority within the team, and the successful applicant would have a key role in supervising clinicians in training. Over a number of years, the service has the service has developed strong links with the York St John Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and is a provider of placements for students. The team are keen to continue to offer training placements under supervision of the successful applicant. There is also a key role for supervision of clinicians within the wider team.
